Getting old...

This past weekend my husband and I and two friends went for a practice ride for the adventure race we are going to be doing in two weeks. We went on back "mountain" trails (there are no mountains where we are), full of tree roots and rocks and sand. My legs were like water (not even jello...they were well past that stage) and my arms and shoulders ached from holding onto the handle bars for dear life in hopes I wouldn't fall off. The only injuries suffered were scrapes up the back of my knee from my bike pedals. So all in all, it was a great ride and I recovered.

Yesterday I went grocery shopping and took the big cooler with me to store the cold foods as I had several stops to make and didn't want my food to spoil before I could enjoy it. So unloading the truck, with kids in bed, I got all the groceries out, the big cooler out and all unpacked. While taking out the little ice packs in the bottom, I was on my way up from bending over and heard a couple of pops. Then I realized I felt them too. Right in my lower back. I could barely manage climbing the 5 steps to get inside the house.

Oh this old body is really starting to fall apart! Why is it that I could mountain bike for 3 hours, unload a full ice chest cooler thing and all's it takes to throw my back out is a little ice pack. So very, very sad this old body....

Oh, I'm scared now. I have a 20 mile backpacking hike to do next weekend. I'm so dead.

20 mile?? Where are you going? Just don't lift anything really tiny..those are the things that'll get you! :)

You, Anne are NOT old. You have 4 years of youngness on me you spring chick!

Old ... mmm, why would you take a bike? Is there something wrong with your car?

Jean said...

:) No...nothing wrong with the car....probably would've been a lot easier, but hence would not help this old, out of shape body in the adventure race...

back pains are always the worst! I hope you feel better real soon.

thanks Maki. You'd think I would remember to take something (like vikadin or tylenol with codine, but they all expired). J/K!! The short nap did help along with back rubs from my hubby and two kids. :)

Hope you're feeling better (and PSH! You're not old!).

you surely do not look as old as I am Jean ... just kidding about the car ... I spent 30 minutes this morning running on a tread mill ... how smart is that? 30 minutes running and I never moved!

I'll keep in mind not lifting anything tiny. And focus on the 25lb back pack I'll be toting. Ugh. We are going to Manistee to do a hike somewhere out in the woods. I don't have a clue, some friends of ours have it all planned. I guess we are putting our lives in their hands. So if you never hear from me again their names are...

Hillary, you are too kind! I am feeling better today. thanks :)

Mark..I knew what you meant...just giving you a hard time :) Treadmills remind me of hampster wheels...going fast to get no where :)

Kassi: I hope you have fabulous trip to Manistee! I bet it'll be beautiful weather! You'll have no problem hefting around that backpack. Just think of it as giving Tooter a piggy back ride! ;)
