monkey business

I've been wanting to use this piece of dishware ever since it was purchased at the amazing paper sale I and some friends went to before Christmas. This platter called to me. I heard it the moment I stepped in the door. It looked all lonely and forlorn sitting there, so I just HAD to buy it. Today I broke it in.

This fine specimen of a platter is holding today's first attempt at monkey bread. My eyes were weary looking for a recipe that used homemade dough instead of pop-the-can biscuits. Finally after searching high and low (more like up and down arrows) I found one that used home made dough AND used the bread maker. Double score!!

It is still sitting on the platter. Ooey and gooey. Alina's licking her chops and I'm typing as fast as I can so I can scramble over and pull that first warm, yummy morsel off the side. Gut feeling is it will be gone tomorrow.

Mmmmmm! I looooove monkey bread! Try it with craisins and walnuts in the bottom of the pan for an extra treat! :)

oh - FUN! This was a Dobson family tradition: every snow day, my mom would make monkey break (from scratch) - though I doubt she would keep it up every day with the amount of snow days we're having recently!

It was pretty tasty...though the middle wasn't as done as the outside. Need to make it again to see how I can fix that. And craisins and walnuts! MMMMM!!!

You're mom would be baking up a storm this winter Heather!

Cindy, I think this is a great Christmas tradition. May have to start that.

Thanks Kerrianne! :) It's been a good day so far.

Good golly, Jean. You have the patience of a saint to roll all those little balls! Do send the recipe my way sometime, I'd love to try it.

It's all an optical illusion. I just plopped them in the bundt pan. No rolling required. I'd like to try a different recipe as I wasn't 100% impressed with the way it turned out.

i have found that using a regular cake pan works really well. the dough is spread out evenly and cooks through better. give it a try and see what you think.

Thanks Cindy! I'll definitely try that next time!
